Botox After Care Instructions

Although Botox has a long history of clinical use and an excellent safety record, there are certain precautions that should be taken after treatments. They are simple, but should be followed carefully:

  1. Do not massage or manipulate the treatment area for 3-4 hours. This will keep the Botox in the desired location.
  2. Remain in the upright and sitting position for 3-4 hours. This position will prevent the Botox from moving into other facial muscles.
  3. Move the affected muscles by frowning or squinting as much as possible in the first 3-4 hours after treatment. This will help to move the Botox toward the connections and speed up its effect.
  4. Do not do vigorous exercise for 3-4 hours.
  5. Sedentary patients should resume activities slowly.

Occasionally, there might be slight redness or bruising in at the affected areas. If you note swelling or soreness, please call the physician’s office. Usually ice packs or Tylenol are all that are needed. Approximately 1% of patients will develop a slight lowering or ptosis of one eyelid. This is temporary and may not even by noticed by the patient.
